About Fanus

The Federation of African Nutrition Societies (FANUS) is a continental body that brings together national nutrition societies across Africa to advance nutrition science, education, and practice. FANUS serves as a platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and capacity strengthening among nutrition professionals, researchers, and institutions.

The Federation is committed to promoting evidence-based solutions to address Africa’s diverse nutrition challenges, including undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and the rising burden of diet-related non-communicable diseases. Through its activities, most notably the FANUS Conference, FANUS fosters regional partnerships and supports the translation of research into policy and practice.

FANUS holds conferences every 4 years across Africa, rotating in the 4 regional blocks. The 2027 conference will be held in Cape Town, South Africa.

The conference provides a forum for about 600 participants from the fields of nutrition and health, policymakers, entrepreneurs, development partners, and other stakeholders in the nutrition, health, agriculture and food sectors to present their latest research findings.

The Theme of the 6th FANUS Conference will be “Nutrition for a Resilient and Sustainable Africa: Policy, Science and Practice in a Changing Food Environment” and be held from 18 – 21 October 2027.
